Definition of Comprehensive Youth Ministry

The Comprehensive model of youth ministry is grounded in the mission of Jesus and the Church, directed toward growth in Christian Discipleship, guided by three particular goals:

  1. Youth Ministry works to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person;
  2. Youth Ministry seeks to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the faith community;
  3. Youth Ministry empowers young people to become disciples of Jesus Christ who witness to their faith by living and working for justice, peace and human dignity.

And it is organized around eight ministry components: catechesis, prayer and worship, evangelization, advocacy, pastoral care, leadership development, community life, and social justice. (Youth Works: Canadian Edition; Center for Youth Ministry Development; Regina; 1994)
