UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC YOUTH & YOUNG ADULTS

Archeparchy of Winnipeg

Role of The Parent

Role of Parent

We wish to emphasize that the primary responsibility for Youth Ministry rests with, you, the parent. Consequently, your active involvement is essential in creating a learning experience that is Christ-centered.

What your child/youth/young adult is experiencing and living at home and in school becomes an integral part of him/herself. This is later transmitted to others. What is experienced within a youth catechetical session here at UCY events needs affirmation in the home.

It is important, therefore, that you understand and realize that the time we have with your child/youth/young adult at events/sessions/meetings does not allow for deep reflection on the many aspects of spiritual life that will be discussed. We, in the Youth Ministry Program, will plant the seed of learning — you, the parent, must nurture it at home in the family. This opportunity for such intimate sharing can become a very special time for you and your child/youth/young adult.

Recognizing the extremely vital role that you, as a parent, play in the religious development of your child/youth/young adult, we invite you to participate in Youth Ministry by attending events/sessions/etc along with your child/youth/young adult. This will give you a chance to see first-hand the youth ministry experience we are offering. It will also provide the opportunity for you to get to know your child’s youth director and leaders and hopefully instill a desire to get even more involved in Parish life by participating in other activities.
