Year of Faith ~ Prayers

We thank you God for the gift of work. We may not always like it, but the responsibilities and jobs we have at home and school will help us grow up to be capable and happy people. We are grateful for our parents and teachers who show us how to take care of ourselves, our homes, and school and who model the value of work. As we grow older we pray that we will continue to learn how to do many new things that will benefit others and ourselves. Help us to remember to give glory to God in everything we do each day, through our work and play. Amen.

Increase our faith! (Luke 17:5) Holy God, We thank you for the gracious gift of faith. With the apostles before us, we ask that you Open our hearts to the power of your Word and increase our faith that we may be bold followers and joyful witnesses to the message and mission of your Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Prayer: Canticle of St. Francis of Assisi

Most High, all-powerful, all-good Lord, All praise is Yours, all glory, all honour and all blessings. To you alone, Most High, do they belong, and no mortal lips are worthy to pronounce Your Name.

Praised be You my Lord with all Your creatures, especially Sir Brother Sun, Who is the day through whom You give us light. And he is beautiful and radiant with great splendour, Of You Most High, he bears the likeness.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars, In the heavens you have made them bright, precious and fair.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air, And fair and stormy, all weather’s moods, by which You cherish all that You have made.

Praised be You my Lord through Sister Water, So useful, humble, precious and pure.

Praised be You my Lord through Brother Fire, through whom You light the night and he is beautiful and playful and robust and strong.

Praised be You my Lord through our Sister, Mother Earth who sustains and governs us, producing varied fruits with coloured flowers and herbs. Praise be You my Lord through those who grant pardon for love of You and bear sickness and trial. Blessed are those who endure in peace, By You Most High, they will be crowned.

Praised be You, my Lord through Sister Death, from whom no-one living can escape. Woe to those who die in mortal sin! Blessed are they She finds doing Your Will.

No second death can do them harm. Praise and bless my Lord and give Him thanks, And serve Him with great humility.
St. Francis of Assisi

Prayer: Giving Thanks

Let us give thanks to God our Faith for all his gifts so freely bestowed upon us. For the beauty and wonder of his creation, earth and sky and sea: We thank you, Lord. For all the ways we are Christ to each other: We thank you, Lord. For our daily food and drink, our homes and families, and our friends: We thank you, Lord. For minds to think and hearts to love and hands to serve: We thank you, Lord. For health and strength to work, and leisure to rest and play: We thank you, Lord. For the Communion of Saints, in all time and places: We thank you, Lord. Above all, let us give thanks for the great mercies and promises given to us in Christ Jesus.

For Expectant Mothers Prayer

Almighty and everlasting God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, you prepared the body of the Virgin Mary to be a worthy dwelling place of your divine son. You sanctified St. John the Baptist, while still in his mother’s womb. Listen now to my prayer. Through the intercession of St. Gerard, watch over my child and me; protect us at the time of delivery. May my child receive the saving graces of Baptism, lead a Christian life, and, together with all the members of our family, attain everlasting happiness in heaven. Amen.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd, as you once gathered lost sheep that they might hear Your voice and be your flock,
so also today graciously look down from heaven upon our parish community, and send down on it your Holy Spirit, that it might be a place to receive the joy of Your Good News. Strengthen us with your presence, and always gather us together in prayer. Grant us the spirit of serving others, so that in our parish all might encounter You, the merciful God. Bless our spiritual leaders with Your wisdom, and inspire us to generously give of our time, talents and treasure for the building up of Your Kingdom. Unite us in peace and harmony, as befits Your community of love. Instill in us a missionary spirit, and let our parish community shine with the light of the Gospel, with prayer and good works, inviting all to share in the divine life, so that Your Name, O Savior, may be praised, together with Your eternal Father, and your most-holy, good and life-giving Spirit. Amen.
